Purpose of the job:

To be responsible for the proactive management, operation, maintenance and development of the IT and networking systems including data, voice and cabling sub-systems to deliver a robust and reliable technical infrastructure for the Trust and associated schools. 

To develop, maintain and produce documentation and proactive procedures to ensure delivery of a robust, reliable, efficient and effective service that meets the demands of trust users.

To contribute where appropriate to both business and technical analysis to propose and implement new ICT solutions for use across the Trust.

Responsibilities:

  • To contribute to the development of the Delta ICT Strategy and to develop and implement Operational Plans to support the delivery of this strategy in terms of IT and networking systems.
  • To manage the design, development, provision and support of all of the Trusts IT and networking systems to deliver excellent levels of service, performance and availability. These systems will include but not be limited to:
    • Centralised data centre services including enterprise AD deployment
    • WAN connectivity
    • LAN Active infrastructure and wireless platforms
    • Server platforms and storage systems (hardware, software and services)
    • VOIP Telephony
  • To provide support and supervision of technical support staff in the ICT services team and Trust schools, including providing clear leadership, motivating and developing staff.
  • To support the management team in providing support and supervision of technical support staff including recruitment & selection and performance management.
  • To proactively make recommendations to ensure network stability and optimal performance
  • To liaise and work with third parties for support and procurement of products and services.
  • To define and document appropriate management and maintenance procedures (ITIL or similar) for the school’s ICT systems and networking equipment.
  • To perform and report root cause analysis of major incidents.
  • To own and manage the BAU Service Desk and major incidents and problems.
  • To develop and establish regular reporting metrics and proactive monitoring of the operation and availability of the Delta network and systems to ensure that these resources are performing effectively.
  • To provide technical liaison, support and assistance for the delivery and development of school networks and ICT technologies.
  • To undertake relevant administrative project management tasks, manage records, information and data and produce analysis and reports as directed.
  • To establish and maintain security preventing unauthorised access to school systems.
  • To act as data guardian for all systems throughout the Trust supporting the adoption of best practice of management, use and security of data. Responsibility for the back-up systems, procedures, and ensuring accurate restoration of data when required across all schools.
  • To have oversight of all schools and Trust Disaster Recovery Plan, including regularly updating all contents.
  • To assess and approve change and release management of systems and service changes
  • To action out of hours alerts as and when required
  • To perform, if required, other tasks commensurate with the role as instructed by your line manager or Director of ICT
  • To participate in training and other learning activities and performance development as required
  • To ensure strict confidentiality in all areas of work
  • To work and process personal and sensitive information in accordance with Data Protection Act 2018 including the General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) 2018
  • To ensure work is conducted in a way that protects the safety and security of information (e.g. strong passwords, reporting breaches, securing paper records, securely disposing of records)
  • To understand and comply with the statutory guidance regarding safeguarding of children, ensuring the safeguarding and promotion of children’s welfare at all times, reporting any concerns to the Designated Safeguarding Officer immediately
  • To comply with the Trust and academy’s policies and procedures at all times

To undertake other reasonable duties (with competence and experience) as requested, in accordance with the changing needs of the organisation.

Experience and Knowledge

Essential

  • Qualified to degree level in a relevant ICT related discipline
  • Minimum 3 years post qualification work experience
  • Experience in the provision of high quality support services to a diverse user community, preferably in the education sector
  • Experience in Cisco, HP, Dell network equipment and their operating systems
  • Experience of directing and deploying technical staff
  • Experience of liaising with external suppliers
  • Experience in management and operations of the local networks, data centre services and enterprise server and storage systems
  • Proven experience of virtual networking technology including Microsoft Hyper-V, Citrix, Dell VDI
  • Have a working knowledge of network systems, their installation and maintenance and adaptation
  • Experience of Network and Application security
  • Experience of Wireless networks
  • Proven experience of DPM Data Backup and best practice
  • Experience with change management protocols
  • Proven record of driving and defining ICT strategy
  • Proven ICT operations and system management experience
  • Experience of Group Policy
  • Experience of working with a tiered support service desk

  • Secure technical knowledge of industry standard technologies – hardware and software (ideally within Cisco networking, Microsoft server and desktop environments including Windows Server, enterprise AD deployment, InTune, SQL, Azure Microsoft System Centre
  • Strong proven technical knowledge of Firewall and filtering systems, such as Fortinet and Smoothwall
  • Knowledge of VOIP technology
  • Secure knowledge of JIRA and Nessus enterprise software or equivalent
  • Understand the importance and demonstration of knowledge management
  • Can demonstrate good working practices about the handling of ICT equipment
