Purpose of the job:

Delta Academies Trust are looking to appoint a Trust Catering Manager to join us as soon as possible. As the Trust’s Catering Manager, you will lead on bringing the Trust catering service in-house, nurturing and enthusing existing catering staff as part of our wider school teams, ensuring investment in their professional development, and ensuring compliance with all relevant legislation.

You will be a qualified chef with a firm grasp on how to attract our children and young adults to consume exciting dishes, created from fresh ingredients, packed with nutritional value.

There may be an opportunity in the future to work with the Director of Operations to introduce a commercial catering provision to our newly built conference centre, ensuring consistency across the food service provision.

You will communicate clearly and diplomatically with colleagues, staff and customers at all levels and make decisions relating to the Trust’s catering services.

Duties and Responsibilities will include:

  • You will devise fresh, healthy, filling, and delicious menus that respond to local tastes, liaising with Catering Managers and our schools.
  • You will monitor and maintain consistent food standards and quality across all areas during all stages of production and supply.
  • You will be responsible for menu planning, innovation and development using fresh produce throughout our catering offer.
  • You will be responsible for the control and co-ordination of food production and presentation to the highest standards throughout our catering outlets.
  • You will work to keep the cost of meals down for our parents (and colleagues), whilst maintaining a high standard.
  • You will understand and work to financial budgets, supported by our Finance Team, to ensure that expenditure on our catering service remains economical in relation to our income.
  • You will run an efficient and effective service supported at a local level by our Catering Managers and Finance Managers, actively seeking the views of the entire customer range to ensure the most appropriate provision at all times.
  • You will act as the senior authority for front of house management and have regular contact with school kitchen management, school leadership and the Trust executive on the catering
  • The catering services will include all or some of the following aspects – vending, breakfast service, tuck shops, lunch service, staff room service, after-school clubs, and function catering, in addition to support services such as school meal administration, cashless systems and nutritional
  • You will be responsible for ensuring costs are controlled without affecting the service quality and delivery at each site. You will understand and work within financial targets to make immediate adjustments to achieve the You will have the ability to keep accurate records for all cost control systems.
  • You will establish, maintain, and adhere to management guidelines, quality, personnel, and hygiene policies, as well as Food Hygiene Regulations and Health and Safety at Work Act in a Supervisory You will be competent in completing audit and verification procedures.
  • You will be accountable for COSHH, Food Safety, Health & Safety, legal regulations, environmental policies, risk assessments and duty of care to customers and colleagues including allergen management. Ensure care is taken with regard to special dietary requirements: for example, nut, dairy, or wheat allergies.
  • You will ensure direct line staff meet compliance with all Health   & Safety and Hygiene procedures and standards including, but not limited to, HACCP, COSSH and allergen management
  • You will deal with and advise on escalated day to day staffing matters, reporting matters of a disciplinary nature or employee complaints to school leadership team and the
  • You will be responsible for devising and overseeing effective training for all catering staff on-site, including induction, basic skills and to review the on-going training needs of individuals on a regular
  • You will ensure training records on sites are kept up to date and manage and support the development, progress, and performance of all Catering
  • You will devise menus and deliver menu training to all Catering Managers in order to ensure we are meeting customer expectations, to anticipate changes required and seek continuous improvements to the catering service
  • You will be responsible for escalated on-site customer care and liaising with school management in order to ensure the service is meeting the individual school’s
  • You will be responsible for the recruitment and management of the school catering teams, including filling vacancies due to sickness and maternity. You will build relationships with agencies or developing appropriate models of cover.
  • You will be responsible for devising procurement policies for the management of all food stocks on site, premises security and all catering service equipment including cashless systems, and on loan equipment such as vending
  • You will be responsible for ensuring all line staff deal with defects and repairs are reported and are completed
  • You will support the Trust through the completion of projects as required, e.g. to manage and assist in the mobilisation of new school catering
  • You will ensure all Catering Managers are working responsibly in the collection and security of money collected through the tills and vending machines or revaluation machines where appropriate as delegated to site Catering Managers, including record keeping, and safe keeping of large volumes of cash.

  • You will understand and have good knowledge of specialist skills e. special diets, Halal meat preparation, celiac, lactose and all allergens
  • You will be aware of and comply with policies and procedures relating to child protection, inclusion, health, safety and security, confidentiality, and data protection, reporting all concerns to an appropriate person without delay.

  • Hold Supervisory Food Hygiene Certificate (C)
  • 5 A*- C grades (or equivalent) GCSE, including both Maths and English (C)
